Nowadays, data security is a main focus for multiple companies. Therefore, innovative technologies must ensuring maximum efficiency, safety and data security are a must. SBC technology has been the game changer in the construction of the Stollen data centre in Lucerne.

The Stollen Lucerne data center, developed by DATASIGN GmbH, was transformed from a former civil defense facility and is now operated by ewl, the energy services provider for the City of Lucerne.

Challenge

The special location and mountainous landscape made it necessary to blow up an air raid shelter to create enough space for the data centre. This, together with the need to have stable temperature and ventilation, are essential for the security of any data centre.

Solution & results

SBC's technology ensures maximum security for the entire data centre: temperature fluctuations can quickly become dangerous and efficient cooling is essential. The data centre uses ewl's lake water for this in four different pumps. The previous positive experience with the trouble-free BACnet installation by SBC also contributed to the decision in favour of Saia PCD3.
The Saia PCD3 controller features a secondary central control unit (CPU), which provides redundancy and enhanced safety, helping to prevent downtime.
